June 28 - "Skepticism and Science in Child Welfare Work"

We meet again at the Wil-Mar Center. One of our members, Kathy Park, is going to talk about Structured Decision Making (SDM), a method of using evidence and statistical analysis to arrive at decisions, as it applies to the history and current practices in child protective services in the US. When this first started to be implemented, there was a lot of resistance to using evidence in deciding how to handle kids. If you’re interested at all in the use of reason and evidence in our public services or the welfare of children in this country, this should definitely interest you.
