"The Why Files: Science Magazine meets Mad Magazine"
Writer David Tenenbaum will speak to the group about his involvement with the WhyFiles and science writing.
David Tenenbaum is a science writer obsessed with understanding how things work, why they don’t, and why we should care anyway. He’s written about science, health and environment for local, regional and national publications, including the Los Angeles Times, Technology Review, abcnews.com and the Milwaukee Journal. When asked to apply at the Why Files, he responded, “Doesn’t that sound like a JOB?” but then applied anyway, and helped concoct the Files’ humorous but slightly offbeat approach to science news. His work at The Why Files has received awards from the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the National Association for Science Writers. Tenenbaum is also co-author of a recent college textbook on human biology, and is author of several “how-to” books, written for either professional builders or rank amateurs, including 2 Complete Idiot's Guides. Tenenbaum is a Madison resident.
Why Files is 13 years old, and covers the science behind the news as well as breaking science news. Tenenbaum does most of the writing, researching, and some photofinding.
WF does everything, as shown on their archive page:
