Pub Politico - January 10th
January 10th, Brocach Irish Pub on the square in Madison
2:00 pm
Pub Politico is a brand new monthly event starting January 10, 2010, that will give the public the opportunity to discuss vital topics of the day with experts, legislators, activists from across the political spectrum.
Our first Pub Politico will feature Shawn Francis Peters. He will discuss public regulation of religious behavior and the current debate in Wisconsin over state law that appears to exempt parents from criminal prosecution for the death of a child when they choose prayer and other faith practices over standard medical care.
Shawn Peters is the author of three books on religion and law. His first book, Judging Jehovah's Witnesses: Religious Persecution and the Dawn of the Rights Revolution won the Scribes Award as the best book on law published in the United States. His most recent work, published by Oxford University Press, is When Prayer Fails: Faith Healing, Children, and the Law. He teaches in the School of Education at UW-Madison.
The first Pub Politico is co-sponsored by the Wisconsin Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. Please visit their site and support them by joining if you can.
